Exploring new dimensions in training

One of the recurring challenges our clients face is choosing between the full immersion of a Full-Cab or Compact Simulator, and the flexibility and scalability of a Nano Simulator.

That trade-off can be bypassed by combination of

Why XR makes a difference

Immersive

Learners train in realistic conditions, with the authentic feel of real driving controls combined with a virtual environment.

Flexible Integration

XR adds immersive modules that can be used alongside existing simulators, giving operators more options without requiring additional space or heavy infrastructure.

Engaging

Its modern technology captures attention, keeps trainees motivated, and helps attract new talent by offering an appealing learning experience.

Mixed Reality (XR) Simulator FAQ

Exploring XR in railway training often raises questions. This FAQ gathers the most common ones and explains how XR can best be integrated into a broader training approach.

Not recommended. XR is highly effective for short, focused training sessions, but using a headset for extended periods is not suitable. The XR Simulator is best combined with other solutions, ensuring immersive moments without compromising comfort or pedagogy.

XR is particularly relevant for situational awareness, emergency procedures, and operational scenarios that benefit from high immersion. It is less suited for long-duration routine training, where other simulators (Nano, Compact, or Full-Cab) remain more appropriate.

XR complements existing simulators. It brings extra immersion and flexibility, while Full-Cab and Compact simulators remain the reference for certification. Together, they create a complete training ecosystem.

XR is not a replacement for proven training tools, but a way to expand possibilities. It helps operators engage learners, attract new talent, and prepare staff with innovative, high-tech methods—while always being backed by Transurb’s simulation expertise.
